Peppermint Lip Balm

Who doesn't like a good chap stick or lip balm?  Especially here in Colorado where the air is dry all the time and no matter hot or cold, I still get dried out lips.  I came across this recipe when I was making Christmas gifts last year from the same site that I got my hand salve recipe from, renegademothering.com.  This recipe is so close in nature to the previous post on Body Butter and uses a lot of the same ingredients while still proving to be virtually mess free!  Check out the video tutorial on making Body Butter and use the same method.

Peppermint Lip Balm

What you'll need:

1 heaping tbsp of beeswax
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp almond oil (or you can use all coconut)
10-15 drops of peppermint (I like it pretty peppermint-y)
1/4 tsp vitamin E oil

Using your trusty mason jar (that you didn't clean out from your hand salve or body butter), combine all of the ingredients together except for the peppermint.  Place jar in pot of boiling water and allow everything to fully melt together.  Swish it around.  Remove from heat and add the essential oil.  Immediately pour into your containers and allow to cool.  It will make about 5 tubes of chap stick so you can half the recipe if you are just making it for yourself.

You can reuse old chap stick containers for this or use little lip balm tins.  For Christmas gifts, I bought chap stick tubes from Amazon in a pack of 50 for about $10.  That's 50 stocking stuffers for less than $15 total!  I've also seen chap stick containers at Sprouts, Whole Foods, and Vitamin Cottage but they usually run at least a dollar a tube.  Not terrible if you are only making one for yourself I guess.

So there you have it!  Another melt and pour recipe to try.  Your lips will thank me!
