New Year Abs

So you want abs?  Don't we all!  And this time of year there are lots of people headed to the gym to get their workout on.  Just yesterday, after class, a woman approached me and wanted me to show her some moves she could do in the water to strengthen her core.  For her, it was not about wanting that six pack.  She had been in an accident and has finally recovered enough to work out again after six months.  She used to be very fit but now is feeling quite weak.  She wanted to work on her abs to help with everyday activities.  We all use our core muscles for so many day to day tasks.

Whether you are looking to widdle your middle or just get stronger, the pool is an excellent place to start or supplement with your regular gym workouts.

For starters, freestyle swimming is so good for you.  It not only shreds calories, it is a fantastic cardio workout, works almost every muscle of your body and effectively tones your mid section.  I recommend combining freestyle laps with several ab focused water exercises.

I've created a PDF chart with 13 abdominal exercises that can be done in the water.  Some use equipment, some do not.  And some can be done with our without equipment.  There are lots of options to choose from.  Check out the document and feel free to print it or share with your friends.

You can also check out my video demonstrating these moves.   Grab your suit and a towel and head for the pool.  I promise you're going to feel great!
