We use grass fed, organic ground beef and a farm fresh egg to ensure the best quality. I like to make several at a time and freeze two or three. When I’m ready to make them later I just let them thaw first, then bake as usual. You can use any biscuit recipe or try Kristin’s Kitchen biscuits made with organic ingredients.
From using them as trash bags, to things as creative as melting them to make jewelry, why throw them away? If you are like me, even though you might have reusable cloth grocery sacks, you still end up with piles of those plastic bags from the times you left your bags at home or in the car. Here is a fun way I came up with to use them as "wet bags" for things like diapers and swim suits. I do eventually throw them away but at least they get one more good use out of them!

So gather all your plastic bags and your empty diaper wipe containers and check it out. I've put together pictures to show each step. It's simply folding up your bags and placing them in your container. I was able to get 10 bags in my old Huggies container.
When you are looking for a quick party snack, these are perfect! A few weeks ago we were invited to a party and everyone was to bring something to munch on. Living in the mountains, we try to use what we have on hand instead of making the drive to the grocery store 40 minutes round trip out of the way. I pretty much always keep pizza ingredients on hand. My business sells pizza crust mix - which is available here, by the way, at my Esty Shop! And I have learned to keep a steady supply of cheese and hand canned pizza sauce.
Hmm... When I first heard about putting dark chocolate in my enchilada sauce I cringed. It sounded disgusting. I mean, I love chocolate. I mean I really, really, LOVE chocolate! And I've become accustom to yummy, good-quality, dark chocolate. It's the best. But in my enchiladas?
I'm very sad as I have lots of ideas but no way to edit at this time. I will resume as soon as I can afford to invest in a new computer! Stay tuned for my regular Monday posts as it seems for now I am still able to upload pics. Oh technology! Why do you hate me?!
Last week I posted my tutorial on how to make Chicken Bouillon Powder from scratch. This is the second part of that post as promised. In this post, I will show you how I made Ramen Noodles. You can use these noodles to make your own Ramen Noodle jars that just require adding water. You can check it out HERE. This is a follow up post letting you all know what I do for diaper wipe solution. There are lots of recipes out there on different types of solution. It is a really forgiving kind of thing to make. You basically can't do it wrong. I put in whatever goodies I have on hand usually. You can find the recipe inspiration for this post HERE for specifics.
A few weeks ago, I came up with an idea that sparked some interest on Facebook. I wanted to make some "ramen noodles" that are healthy, not full of added chemicals and toxins. So I went to work on trying to figure out a good dry pasta recipe that resembles Chinese noodles or Ramen noodles and a way to make dry chicken broth powder.
Last week was quite stressful as evident by the lack of my vlog post. Well, here it is... the long awaited video post on making a toy for my new puppy, Cinder. She is an adorable little black lab who loves to chew on EVERYTHING! We went to the pet store (and several other stores) looking for supplies when we first got her a few weeks ago and I was stunned by the price tag on such simple toys. This project not only saves you money but it also helps you recycle something that may otherwise end up in a trash can. And the more you wash and dry it, the more it stays together! Bonus!
I have three kids and sometimes going out in public can be
really tough. OK, more than
sometimes. It is especially hard when
I’m by myself. To help keep my sanity
and keep my kiddos happy I came up with some activity packs for them. These packs are only for when we go out and
don’t get played with at home.

You may be wondering why a post like this made the cut for
my health and wellness blog. Any momma
out there knows that mental health is EXTREEMLY important. And as we all know, if momma ain’t happy,
ain’t no one happy! Unoccupied, bored
kiddos can send me into crazy-scary-mom in a matter of minutes depending on the
severity of the situation! And though I
fall victim to the phone/tablet/video game/Netflix route sometimes, I try not
to let my kids rely solely on electronics to make them happy.

YES! Will they actually turn out

fries which I have a serious weakness for. (Yes I know they are about as far
from natural as possible!) But for
making quick dinners at home WITHOUT deep frying, they are pretty tasty. I use my convection oven for even heating but
a regular oven will work also.

Today I'm going to show you how I do my diaper wipes at home. I know there are other great blog posts and videos out there on the subject but I thought I would share how I like to do ours. I received some cloth baby wipes as a gift from a sweet lady who came to my Aqua Zumba classes. It go me thinking about it more and how easy it would be to make more of them. After all, I'm cloth diapering so it's not like its any extra work for laundry. I just put the cloth wipes with the diapers and launder it all together.

The times that I actually feel motivated to deep clean are so few and far between that I can probably count on one hand the number of times that happens in a year! So when the urge hits, you gotta run with it! One such urge came on the other day when I became so disgusted with our basement bathroom that I simply couldn't stand it. I went to bed thinking about it, and I woke up with one mission. Deep clean it. Top to bottom. Floors to ceiling. And while I was at it, how about the walls. ALL the walls in my house. (Serious ambition but not enough hours in the day!)
Last year I saw a neat post on Pinterest that I really
wanted to try. It was all about how to
grow your own potatoes in a large trash can.
Can’t be that hard right? We had
an old 55 gallon trash bin that had at one point been converted to a rain
barrel and was no longer being used as such.
(That was another pinterest project that just didn’t work out for our
circumstances.) The post I read stated
that you can yield 100 pounds of potatoes from just one pound of planted
spuds. We love to grow our own food and
we knew we would be moving and it could be transportable so it seemed like a great idea.

First we picked up some organic
potato planters at the local grow store and cut them into 1 or 2 inch chunks,
making sure to leave “eyes” on each chunk. For experimentation sake, we also left some of them whole. We then let them sit out on a cookie sheet in a bright room but not in
direct sunlight to get them to sprout for about 2 weeks.

We started with our 55 gallon trash can and drilled holes
all up and down the bin to make sure there would be plenty of good drainage for
watering. Next, we filled the bottom with
about 6 inches of gravel/rock so that the dirt would not get soggy on the
bottom. The next layer was 6 inches of
top soil mixed with compost. My boys loved helping with this step.

Turning away from processed sugar is sometimes hard. OK, it’s really hard. I love sweets… candy, baked goods, and
CHOCOLATE just to name a few. When I let
myself and family have too many treats I can feel the addiction! And let’s be clear. Sugar IS an addiction and one the food
industry relies on to line their pockets and keep us coming back for more. We all know that sugar is bad for us and
especially highly processed candy and fruit snacks available on the market
right now. In an effort to reduce sugar
intake in our house, we like to eat fruits.
Dried pineapple chips are delicious, sweet, and chewy. It’s a good way to satisfy a sweet tooth
craving.
Let's Start Fresh!

Happy New Year from Sports Bras and Aprons! For those of you who have never visited, first of all, welcome! This blog was started as I began my journey to better health in January of 2013. It's been two whole years. Wow times flies!! But for the last year my posts have been intermittent as I was pregnant and now have a beautiful little 4 month old daughter to add to my little family of 5 now.

Many of my old recipes have had to have some adjustments. I've learned what works and what doesn't. And I've learned that adding eggs to things is a high altitude baker's best line of defense against dense cakes and muffins. Even though I personally am at an altitude of 8,125 ft, I know that for most reading my blog, you are not. So I've decided to put the original recipe link up and post my proven high altitude adjustments here.
As many know, I am about 19 weeks pregnant now and life is pretty busy. I started this blog with the intention of posting my findings on natural living and my inspirations as God revealed to me how to take better care of myself and my family. It has been a wonderful journey so far. I in no way am quitting this blog forever. However, I feel it has become burdensome to come up with cool new posts on a regular basis. I never intended this blog to become an obligation. For this reason, I have decided to take a "Maternity Break."

Please don't leave me forever! I will return with a fresh mind and new things to try and do as I wade the waters of life as a family of five! I'm sure I will be looking into all kinds of natural tips on raising a baby. Please feel free to browse my previous posts in the mean time. I'll return after baby is born with new material this fall.

Happy reading! See you soon.
Especially here in Colorado where the air is dry all the time and no matter hot or cold, I still get dried out lips. I came across this recipe when I was making Christmas gifts last year from the same site that I got my hand salve recipe from, renegademothering.com. This recipe is so close in nature to the previous post on Body Butter and uses a lot of the same ingredients while still proving to be virtually mess free! You might have seen this handy trick on Pinterest or floating around on Facebook. I decided to give it a try and make Christmas gifts from it this past year. What is it? Vanilla Extract. That yummy golden liquid that smells so fantastic and makes your cookies, cakes, and ice cream burst with flavor.
